Deputy Headteacher job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a strong and inspirational leader with SLD/PMLD experience, who is able to work collaboratively and provide targeted support to ensure meaning and positive outcomes for all pupils. 

The role will entail supporting the Headteacher in all aspects of the school’s leadership particularly around quality of supporting students with complex learning difficulties. 

You will be required to support the curriculum, raise aspirations and set high standards for staff, pupils and parents/carers alike.

Castle School, part of the Northumberland Church of England Academy Trust, is an all-age specialist school for pupils with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. 

Applicants should have:

  • A proven track record of excellent classroom practice within a special school. Ideally this would include teaching pupils who have severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. 
  • Experience of leadership within a special school context.
  • A passion for supporting all children to achieve their potential.
  •  A commitment to promote and maintain the ethos of the School and Trust. 
  • An understanding of assessment within a special school context. 
  • The drive to secure even better outcomes and further continued improvement in the academic and personal wellbeing of our pupils.
