Deputy Headteacher job summary
‘There is a culture of continual self-improvement in school where staff are given frequent opportunities for focused professional dialogue and coaching with colleagues’ Ofsted 2018
Here at Seamer and Irton Community Primary we have created a happy school that is committed to excellence. Over the years, we have continually focused on making sure our children are nurtured, cared for and inspired to achieve their very best – by investing in our curriculum, educational setting and our staff.
Our values and ethos of ‘a happy school committed to excellence’ is firmly embedded and we are constantly told by visitors, parents and the local authority that our school has a real warmth and energy about it. To be a teaching colleague at Seamer and Irton you have to be inclusive, inspiring and have the highest expectations for our children.
We enter 2020 looking very much to the future. Ofsted visited us in June 2018 where we maintained our ‘good’ judgement and are clear about our priorities moving forward. As a school we are well placed to achieve good outcomes for our children and we want our new colleague to add their own ideas and strategies to our school – where you will find a culture of team work and self-reflection, which is testament to our highly organised and stable staff body.
We are looking to appoint an aspiring or existing senior leader as our sole Deputy Headteacher from September 2020.
You will already be an excellent class room practitioner within your phase and have some proven leadership experience within your current school.
With tailored support from our Headteacher, the Local Authority and development opportunities through the North Yorkshire Coast Opportunity Area we will give you the skills, encouragement and experience within the profession to excel as our Deputy Headteacher – and beyond.
Our Deputy Headteacher post carries a teaching commitment (0.7FTE) and you will lead and monitor teaching and learning across school.
Commitment to safeguarding
Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.
Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.
Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):
childcare disqualification
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
medical
online and social media
prohibition from teaching
right to work

suitability to work with children
You must tell us about any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
