What skills and experience we're looking for

What are the Governors looking for?

A highly ambitious leader who believes in our Catholic Mission and will celebrate all our successes.

A senior leader who puts ‘pupils first’, who doesn’t accept second best and who is fully committed to pupil progression and excellence in all we do.

A senior leader who, in time, has the ability to become Headteacher.

What the school offers its staff

What does St Damian’s offer?

A clear vision that reflects our Catholic ethos and is based on core values. The St Damian’s vision is simple: ‘to be outstanding in all we do’.

Excellent leadership throughout all levels with a clear vision that ensures pupil outcomes are at the forefront. The successful candidate will build upon the success of the current leaders in the school.

A unique culture, called the ‘St Damian’s Way’. This is built upon high expectations in a very supportive and caring environment and where all staff are valued and treated equally.

A range of initiatives, under the umbrella of our BeeWell strategy to ensure that staff well-being is high on the agenda.

A great team of staff whose commitment and dedication are a ‘joy to behold’. All the staff embrace the vision, and this can be felt throughout the school through excellent relationships based on mutual respect

An ambitious whole College staff where support staff, teachers and leaders are well supported and where excellent professional development is at the heart of staff development. The recent Investors in People report reflects this.

St Damian’s delivers excellent pupil outcomes that are consistently above the National Average in all key measures. This simply reflects the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom.

A highly ambitious, knowledge rich curriculum that at least equals the robustness of the National Curriculum.

A heavily over-subscribed College where there is overwhelming confidence in the local community [and indeed beyond].

A relatively new, fit-for-purpose, building that is conducive to learning

St Damian’s is a heavily oversubscribed Roman Catholic Science College committed promoting the welfare of children and to the professional development of staff. St Damian’s is situated on the Tameside and Oldham border and is widely recognised for the quality of care it provides for all pupils and the professional opportunities afforded to all colleagues.

However, we are not a complacent community, and we strive daily to ensure that our great pupils receive the ‘best’ catholic education in terms of academic achievement, faith formation and personal development. This holistic education is at the heart of what we do and who we are. Our pupils achieve excellent outcomes; second best is not the mantra of the fantastic staff at St Damian’s.

Last year was a remarkable year for our small, yet thriving, community. Firstly, we achieved back-to-back Ofsted outstanding [June 2023] and a back-to-back outstanding Catholic inspection, in June 2024. Despite more robust frameworks in both inspections, the community again proved that we deliver the ‘best’ education possible. The excellent Ofsted report concluded “Pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), feel honoured, safe and happy to be attending this school”. This epitomises our mantra which is ‘start with the child and you won’t go far wrong’. Secondly, we have sustained academic outcomes, which continue to be above National average in all headline measures. This is important as it ensures we give our students the best possible chance in life by preparing for their next stages. Thirdly, we have won a plethora of external accolades including three ‘Secondary School of the Year’ awards, an overall ‘Secondary School of the Year’, and were finalists for ‘Wellbeing’, ‘Mental Health & Wellbeing’, and ‘Community Champion’ awards; all ‘just’ recognition for our achievements and to fulfil our simple vision ‘to be outstanding in all we do’
