What skills and experience we're looking for

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a successful track record of teaching across the whole curriculum and able to evidence good progress and achievement of pupils.
  • Be an excellent class teacher who will model great teaching and learning able to coach and develop staff.
  • Be an outstanding curriculum leader who has shown impact and improved children’s outcomes.
  • Experience of building positive links with parents and the wider community.
  • Planned and delivered staff training that enable staff to learn and flourish in their roles.

This role currently carries a 0.2 teaching commitment.

St Michael’s CofE Primary Academy are seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher to be an instrumental part of the Leadership Team, and to work in partnership with the Head Teacher to continue the school’s improvement journey. The ideal candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner and experienced curriculum leader who can improve the quality of teaching and learning within the school through enabling best practice.

St Michael’s CofE Primary academy is a larger than average, primary school, located in Heavitree, Exeter. The school has enjoyed an excellent reputation for serving the local community for over 140 years. It is oversubscribed and is currently full with 420 pupils. The school is inclusive and as such, welcomes children with a range of needs and from a variety of backgrounds. This leads to a dynamic learning environment, catering for diverse cohorts whilst ensuring high standards. There is a strong team culture with staff working closely with each other for the benefit of all the children. Through established and embedded values, St Michael’s children are not only excellent learners, they are also first class citizens, helping to make the world a better place for all.
