What skills and experience we're looking for

St Philip Howard Catholic Voluntary Academy are looking for a practicing catholic who is enthusiastic, determined and inspirational Deputy Headteacher to support the Headteacher with the day-to-day management of the school.

Key Responsibilities

The Deputy Headteacher will support the Headteacher in:

  • Communicating the school’s vision compellingly and supporting the Headteacher’s strategic leadership
  • The day-to-day management of the school
  • Formulating the aims and objectives of the school
  • Establishing policies for achieving these aims and objectives
  • Managing staff and resources to that end
  • Monitoring progress towards the achievement of the school’s aims and objectives

If the Headteacher is absent, the Deputy Headteacher will deputise, as directed by the governing board.This is a reserved post and is open to practising Catholics only, please review the document produced by the Diocese of Nottingham “Catholic Schools and the Definition of a Practising Catholic” for further information.

St Philip Howard Catholic Voluntary Academy is a mixed, comprehensive, Roman Catholic secondary school situated in the thriving town of Glossop, Derbyshire. It is part of the newly formed Catholic Multi Academy Trust; St Ralph Sherwin.

The school is has good commuter links to Stockport, Macclesfield and Manchester by car and rail.

A smaller than average secondary school, St Philip Howard currently has 480 pupils on roll and is growing rapidly. St Philip Howard is on a journey to outstanding and since the Academy opened in September 2015 has gone from strength to strength. The recent Inspections which took place in 2018 have confirmed this.

Ofsted inspected the Academy in January 2018. Inspectors acknowledged the hard work and commitment of the Senior Leadership Team, Staff and Governors.
