What skills and experience we're looking for

The Deputy Headteacher will play a crucial role in supporting the Headteacher in leading and managing Sutton Tuition and Reintegration Services (STARS), a Pupil Referral Unit that provides education to students with complex medical needs and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. As the Deputy Headteacher, you will be responsible for contributing to the strategic direction of the school, ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning, and promoting the well-being and progress of all students. The Deputy Headteacher will be expected to work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead in the capacity of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure that all safeguarding concerns are addressed promptly and effectively. Additionally the Deputy Headteacher will be required to liaise with external agencies and key stakeholders throughout the borough.

STARS, judged as outstanding in all areas by Ofsted ( Feb 2024) works with children and young people with complex medical needs who are unable, either temporarily or longer term, to access their mainstream school. The majority of pupils attend the Drapers Centre in Carshalton where they are able to access the curriculum in small groups in a nurturing and therapeutic setting. Other pupils may receive 1-1 individual tuition at various sites within the London Borough of Sutton including the school room at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
