What skills and experience we're looking for

- A graduate in a relevant discipline

- To have evidence of continuing and recent professional development relevant to the post

Supporting children with special educational needs

- Effective working with a variety of stakeholders

- Monitoring and identifying areas for improvement

- Leading, motivating and developing practice

- Effective use of assessment and analysis of SEND children’s progress in raising standards

- Teaching experience across the secondary phase having taught at all levels of ability to at least a good standard

- Previous experience of effective SEND development and pupils based learning

- Thorough and up to date knowledge of SEND code of practice and SEND issues

- Proven Management and SEND skills to support inclusive teaching and learning

- Ability to produce accurate work to tight deadlines under pressure

- Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally a variety of audiences

- Ability to be able to deal sensitively with pastoral issues relating to staff and students

- Extensive ICT skills that reflect the impact of technology on today’s classrooms

Further details about the role

Leigh Academy Bexley is now recruiting for a Deputy SENDCo, joining us from September 2023 or sooner if available. This is an opportunity to be part of an experienced SEND department, developing and leading special needs provision and inclusive practice across the Academy.

The overarching purpose of this role is to promote high quality teaching, effective use of resources, and high standards of learning and achievement for students with SEND. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, flexible, well organised and able to work as part of a team as well as having the ability to work alone when required. This role is ideal for candidates with QTS who are keen to progress within the SEND remit.

Key responsibilities, as outlined in the job description, include;

  • To assist the SENDCo within the Academy in the context of current legislation.
  • To manage resources for SEND students across the Academy to ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively, and safely.
  • To support the SENDCo in managing the implementation of an inclusive curriculum for all students.
  • To work with the SENDCo to develop, manage and maintain provision maps for students.
  • To support the SENDCo with the coordination of the daily LSA duties and timetables.
  • To support the SENDCo with the development, implementation, and deliverance of intervention groups and support.
  • To deputise for the SENDCo in non-statutory matters relating to SEND.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity offering MPS/UPS Outer London + TLR commensurate with experience.
