What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a creative, ambitious practitioner to lead our Design and Technology curriculum across all Key Stages. You do not need to be a qualified teacher for this role – we would welcome applications from industry practitioners. You would be fully supported by qualified and experienced teachers to plan and deliver the content of any accredited course.

Our aim is to develop a DT curriculum that will focus on giving leaners the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do practically. Some KS4 students will work towards a BTEC Level 1 Award in Construction whilst others will concentrate on building a portfolio of transferrable skills through AQA Unit Awards. For our younger children it will be project based learning that allows them to develop practical skills and experience the enjoyment of completing a task from planning stages through to an end product. It would be advantageous if you have experience in, construction, woodwork, mechanics and other similar areas.

The school has a fully equipped workshop for multi-trade (brink and block work, carpentry, plastering and plumbing) and a mechanics provision we are developing to offer basic vehicle maintenance and repair. The successful candidate would need to have the qualifications and experience in the subject area and the level 6 health and safety qualifications to be able to lead the teaching and delivery within this space.

There is a need to be flexible in your approach, be sympathetic to the individual needs of students and be able to differentiate to a high level,in order to work within our multi-site school in the Bridgwater area. Ideally you should have experience working with young people who may have significant gaps in their education to help them re-engage in their learning.

What the school offers its staff

We can offer a range of CPD opportunities and the opportunity to work as part of a very skilled, supportive and experienced team. There will be opportunities for career progression as part of the wider partnership of schools, as The Bridge works within a formal partnership with both Polden Bower and Avalon Schools.
