Design Technology Technician (Food & Textiles Preferred)

We are a large, busy and ambitious secondary school where Design Technology is a thriving and highly popular subject across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Students study a broad range of creative and practical subjects at both GCSE and A Level, and we are looking to appoint a Design Technology Technician to support the continued success of our faculty.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and supportive team, working alongside our existing Design Technician who currently supports Product Design and Engineering. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or an interest in Food and/or Textiles, although full training will be provided.

About the Role

Working within our Design Faculty, you will play a key role in supporting both staff and students to ensure learning is engaging, safe and effective. The role is varied and rewarding, combining practical preparation, administrative support and direct student interaction.

Key responsibilities will include:

Preparing materials, ingredients, equipment and resources for practical lessons

Supporting students during practical activities and small-group work

Assisting with the recording, presentation and sharing of coursework where appropriate

Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the faculty, including ordering resources and equipment

Communicating with staff, students and parents as required

Producing teaching and learning resources

Ensuring all activities are carried out safely and effectively

Supporting educational visits and trips

Contributing as part of the school’s first aid team (training can be provided)

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking someone who enjoys the variety and energy that working in a school environment brings. The successful candidate will:

Be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills

Work effectively as part of a team whilst also being an independent problem solver

Be organised, adaptable and able to multi-task in a busy environment

Possess good administration and ICT skills

Have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn new skills

Share our commitment to supporting and inspiring young people through education

Experience in Food Technology and/or Textiles would be advantageous, though not essential, as full support and training will be offered.

Why Join Us?

This is an ideal opportunity for someone considering a future career in education, or for those seeking experience before applying for teacher training. Full access to our Continuing Professional Learning programme is available to support professional development and future career aspirations.

If you are enthusiastic, proactive and excited by the opportunity to work in a vibrant and creative faculty, we would love to hear from you.
