Design Technology Technician job summary

Biddenham is an 11-19, oversubscribed school that, as we expand, is entering the next phase of its development. Due to our popularity, we need to grow and strengthen our already high performing staff team who, by 2026, will be working with 1500 students. Our recent Ofsted report (Nov 2024) described us as a ‘United family’ and was an accurate account of the school. Needless to say, the successful applicant will be joining the school at an exciting time in its development.

Design and Technology at Biddenham seeks to develop our students’ practical skills through a range of projects in wood, metal and plastics. We also aim to develop a wide variety of soft-skills such as problem solving, time management, idea creation, analytical and evaluative skills through the written and drawn elements of the lessons. As students work through the lessons, they will learn how to sketch in 3D, produce 3D digital and practical models and produce beautiful practical outcomes. Students are encouraged at every step to consider their social and environmental impact. Sustainability is a fundamental element of the course.

The Design and Technology Department has 2 full-time teachers who are supported by a talented Technician – which could be you! The role of the Technician is essential for departmental preparation; there is the opportunity to assess existing materials and fresh ideas are always welcome.

This role would be ideal for a former Teacher of DT / an experienced person from an engineering or technology background / or a skilled carpenter tradesperson. However, some training can also be provided. The successful candidate should be enthusiastic about their work with young people and have a genuine concern for their development as individuals.

As a school we offer:
A diverse workplace,
Chromebooks for all classroom staff and students,
Exceptional professional development and career progression,
Positive working relationships at all levels (with a healthy dose of humour!),
A supportive leadership team,
A genuine focus on staff wellbeing with an employee support resource,
Children of staff are prioritised in our admissions criteria,
Cycle to work and Tech scheme for all staff.

Biddenham - ‘Opening Minds - Transforming Lives’.
