What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for an experienced Technician, to support and enhance the teaching and practical needs of a thriving Design Technology department. The role calls for a highly organised and adaptable person who can work independently to organise and prepare materials and equipment for projects and have a good understanding of health and safety. They will need to support teachers and students, be able to solve problems and be adaptable, using their initiative to help the smooth running of the department. This is a permanent post and a fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to gain valuable experience in a school environment, possibly as part of their career development within a supportive and forward-thinking team.
Key tasks are to prepare practical lessons and provide continued support to the Design Technology Department. This is an exciting time to join the team, as it is a popular subject within the school that is looking to grow and develop. We have large numbers of students at GCSE and Sixth Form; many of whom go on to study Design Technology based Undergraduate courses. The department is very well equipped and includes two workshops that have recently been refurbished, two CAD rooms with 3D printers and laser cutters and a multipurpose classroom where we have recently introduced Food and Nutrition and Textiles at KS3. Being adaptable and willing to take on all challenges is essential, as is an interest in all areas of Design Technology.
The successful candidate will possess a positive outlook and have good communication, literacy and numeracy skills. Technical expertise is preferred, as a large part of the role involves setting up the equipment and providing the necessary support with the GCSE and A Level ‘Required Practical’ activities. You must be flexible, mindful of Health and Safety issues and a degree of computer literacy would also be required.
