What skills and experience we're looking for

Phoenix is a multi-cultural 11-19 secondary school, serving 1,890 students in the north of West Bromwich close to the border with Walsall in the West Midlands. Opened in September 2010, as a result of the merger of two local schools, Phoenix has established itself as one of the highest performing schools in the area, an accolade achieved through commitment to continually improving the quality of teaching and learning and the provision of an exciting and dynamic learning experience for students.

Over recent years examination results have continued to improve which is reflected in our 2024 value added figure of +0.17 published by the DFE. This is expected to be further enhanced in 2025 with an EBacc cohort now approaching 40%. Phoenix is a school that aspires to turn every child’s dream into reality; believes that there is no limit to what can be achieved and succeeds through passion, commitment and determination.

We are seeking to appoint a highly talented and innovative, qualified SEND teacher to lead our specialist team of teachers and LSAs. As Director of Alternative Provision, you will have a pivotal role in overseeing the academic, pastoral, and overall wellbeing of students in both our RAISE centre and those attending alternative provision. You will have a confident understanding of a variety of student needs and the ability to inspire excellent learning.

The RAISE (Restorative Approaches in a School Environment) centre is an extension of the main building and supports vulnerable students with a variety of needs such as SEMH. This position will suit an experienced teacher, and is ideal for someone that has had experience in other non-mainstream settings such as specialist or alternative provision.

What the school offers its staff

As a school we have a fabulous CPD offer to support colleagues at whatever point in their career they are, from our ITT to our senior leaders. We also offer our staff a supportive welfare package including, but not limited to, access to physiotherapy, nurse & doctor appointments and counselling. Phoenix is one of only a few schools nationally to benefit from the government’s priority schools building programme and our state-of-the-art facilities are second to none.

The students and staff at Phoenix face an exciting future. If you would like to be part of a school that is committed to becoming the very best, and if you can inspire and motivate our students, you could be the person for this role.
