Director of Learning – Ethics job summary

Vision & Aims - The de Ferrers Trust

The de Ferrers Trust is a Multi Academy Trust comprising three Secondary Academies and four Primary Academies, currently based in Staffordshire and Derbyshire.

Our vision is to ensure the children and young people in our care have the opportunity to fulfil their potential through achieving highly, regardless of their ability or background. We aim to achieve this vision through:

- Delivering a high-quality education
- Recruiting, developing and retaining high-calibre members of staff
- Establishing and developing robust governance
- Ensuring financial probity and viability
- Developing a highly efficient trust infrastructure and central services
- Establishing effective systems to support the sustainable growth of the Trust

About Our School

We benefit from a strong local reputation which is the reason we have increased our admission number to 410. Our expansion has been facilitated by the acquisition of a third site for our popular Sixth Form in the town centre. This has led to a re-organisation of our students, with Year 7 and Year 8 educated at the Dove Campus and Years 9-11 at the Trent Campus, which are half a mile apart.

We were delighted by our January 2017 Ofsted inspection which emphasised the outstanding aspects of our work, including high levels of progress and attainment. We value our staff team, and this is reflected in the wide range of professional development opportunities which are offered both internally and externally. In recent years, we have developed an international reputation for learning technologies, becoming both an Apple Distinguished School and Regional Training Centre; we provide a 1-to-1 iPad programme for all students in Year 9-Year 13.

The Department

The Faculty incorporates Religious Studies, Citizenship and PSHE (called “Values”) across all Key Stages, as well as Key Stage 5 Politics.

In the Ethics Faculty we are committed to preparing our young people for their roles as active citizens and are developing ways of utilising the student voice fully, to help us gauge our successes and effectively plan our priorities for development. We will continue to develop and enhance our curriculum as well as our wider Academy activities in order to achieve this goal.

About You

To be successful, you will be highly qualified and able to support in the promotion of excellent standards of student learning, achievement, progress, attainment and behaviour through working effectively and collaboratively. You will be passionate about your specialist subject and seek to positively impact your field and Academy.

In Return

We strive to be an Employer of Choice and are committed to the wellbeing and development of colleagues. You will join a supportive, warm and friendly community and enjoy an excellent benefits package, which includes:

Following on from 10 years as a specialist Technology College, de Ferrers became an Academy in January 2011. It has grown into a large, split-site, co-educational institution catering for the full range of students from ages 11 to 18. In 2015, de Ferrers became the first school of The de Ferrers Trust (a Multi Academy Trust).

Excellent funding has allowed the Academy to enhance resources and equipment and widely promote the use of new technologies. There are digital projectors and flat-screen TVs in all curriculum areas, with over 500 computers and laptops across all sites.

From October 2012, the Academy became the first school in Staffordshire to provide all sixth form students with access to a personal one-to-one iPad for use in lessons and at home. Currently, all students in Years 9 to 13 (Trent and Sixth Form Campuses) have their own iPad, as well as all teaching staff and most support staff.

At The de Ferrers Academy, we believe in working hard, being kind and choosing wisely. We are privileged to work in a community where we have a positive impact on children’s lives and futures every day.
