Director of Learning for Science job summary

About the role: We are seeking to appoint an inspiring and experienced Director of Learning for Science who will play a vital role in the progress and drive of this department. You’ll be joining the department at an exciting time as the improvements we are making are gaining momentum. Combined science is taught as a discrete subject to all pupils in Years 7-9 as part of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. In years 10 and 11 we follow the AQA Trilogy science programme. Results have steadily improved over the last 3 years and this is a fantastic opportunity for the department to really excel. The role is ideal for a candidate currently in a middle leadership position seeking progression and further responsibility.

The Director of learning must demonstrate aspects of leadership such as:

Up to date knowledge and understanding necessary to undertake the leading of a large science department
A record of successful teaching as an outstanding classroom practitioner
Excellent team member
Energy, positivity, enthusiasm
Prepared to go the extra mile to enable students to do as well as possible

Act as a ‘role model’ of good practice in areas of the role, including great teaching.

We know that excellent leaders in science are in high demand which is why we are offering a recruitment and retention bonus of £2,000 (payable within your first year) for the right candidate.

Working for Strood Academy: Since opening in 2009, our academy has transformed the educational opportunities and outcomes for girls and boys in Strood.
