Director of Learning - PE job summary
Wildern
Secondary School is a large over-subscribed secondary
school in Hedge End, Southampton and we are looking for a passionate,
enthusiastic, creative Director of Learning - PE to join our PE Department. We are part of the
Wildern Academy Trust which comprises of Wildern School, Deer Park Secondary
School and Boorley Park Primary School.

- The PE department consists of 9 specialist PE teachers and 2 specialist dance teachers who all contribute to a very successful and thriving PE & Sports department.
- We are also incredibly well supported by our leisure Centre team who assist with the running and organisation of our leisure Centre complex.
- We have fantastic facilities in the Wildern PE Department which consists of a Sports hall, Multi-Use Fitness Hall, Fitness Suite, on-site Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, Astro, MUGA, Courts and extensive playing fields.
- We have an exceptional engagement rate across KS3 & KS4 in terms of core PE with the vast majority of our students excelling, enjoying and engaging with our PE program.
- We are an extremely over-subscribed subject for examination PE whereby we offer two different qualifications with Edexcel GCSE PE & OCR Nationals Sports Studies.
- Our examination results for 2022/23 placed us as one of the top performing departments nationally with almost 60% of our GCSE cohort attaining a Grade 7-9.
- We currently have 379 students studying one of our examination PE courses across Y9-Y11 which shows the popularity of our subject and the enthusiasm and passion we instill within our students during Y7 & Y8.
- Students currently receive 5 hours of core PE in Y7, 4 hours in Y8 and 2 hours in Y9-Y11.
- Within Key Stage we deliver an innovation concept curriculum which aims to develop skills and attributes that can be applied to a full breadth of sporting disciplines and activities. Our aim is to instill that love of PE & Sport from a young age and ensure every student is able to find their niche that they can pursue beyond their time at Wildern School.
- Our extra-curricular program is extensive where we have, on average, over 20 clubs running weekly which cover a vast array of different sporting pursuits students can engage with beyond the school day.

Wildern School is a popular, oversubscribed secondary school situated in the Southampton suburbs.
