Director of Learning Support and Inclusion (SENCo) job summary
The Governors of Pershore High School wish to appoint a strong and confident leader who thrives on challenge to direct a team providing outstanding support for learning within our inclusive school. The Director of Learning Support and Inclusion will be passionate about teaching and learning with the drive and commitment to ensure the best outcomes for all students regardless of the barriers to their learning. The successful candidate will form part of the extended Leadership Team and join the school at a very exciting time in its development as we take on our first cohort of Year 7 students in September 2021 within Avonreach Academy Trust. This post will include responsibility for our Mainstream Autism Base (MAB).
Pershore High School is a great place to work; our students are friendly and behave well, visitors to the school frequently comment on the calm and purposeful atmosphere that pervades our school.
We currently have 1120 students on roll in Years 8-13 of which 161 are on the SEN Register, 23 of whom have EHCPs. This includes 13 students who are part of our Mainstream Autism Base (MAB). In addition, 15% of students are in receipt of the Pupil Premium Grant. The Learning Support Department is housed, at the heart of the school, within purpose built accommodation which includes an office, a classroom and 4 break out/intervention rooms together with an accessible bathroom facility and physio area. The Autism Base, in addition, houses a classroom, two breakout areas and a kitchen/dining area.
The Learning Support team, currently under review, comprises an Administrator and 10 Teaching Assistants. In addition, the post holder also has indirect line management of 6 subject specialist department based TAs. Our Literacy Coordinator holds a level 7 qualification and manages the testing, access arrangements and interventions for students with dyslexia within the department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and direct a team of key personnel to lead aspects of the department’s work as it is restructured to better meet the needs of growing student numbers, a new year group at Key Stage 3 and the challenges of supporting vulnerable learners. Under national regulations the successful candidate must hold or be willing to achieve within three years of appointment “The National Award for Special Needs Co-ordination” unless they have been a SENCo in schools continuously since before 1 September 2009.
