The Orion

The Orion was set up in January 2000 and is now celebrating 19 years of providing our children with a real chance in life. We were once a “fresh start” school but now have three outstanding OFSTED grades behind us. The school is a great place to work with fabulous pupils and a lovely staff team. In April 2014 we moved to an amazing new site, where we will further expand. Our building includes a theatre, dance studio, recording studio and the most modern sporting facilities you could ever imagine. This is a dream come true for everyone and provides very special opportunities for staff and children. The facilities are shared with Goldbeaters School. We love helping children have Star Qualities. We have some great expertise too… a resident DJ and a recording artist who coach kids. We have a member of Flawless (Dance group semi-finalists from Britain’s Got Talent) who inspires dance! And there are the sports coaches, one of whom leads England’s youth basketball teams and one who has worked at football league clubs. Our Rock Band is led by a member of….yes a rock band! We don’t want to boast at all but just tell you that it can be inspirational here and lots of fun too.

Goldbeaters School

Goldbeaters is over 80 years old and gives local children the best possible primary education. Only a half mile away from The Orion, the very special “Golden” feel is genuine and real. Like Orion, lots of time and effort has gone into improvement across the last 13 years. Pupils now do extremely well and aspiration is very high. We have a very “buzzy” staff team who have made a huge difference to the children. It is a great place to be! A regular supply teacher recently said that we are known as the “happy, happy school of north London”. We have managed to get that rare thing – an Outstanding OFSTED grade and in 2017 we were the second highest achieving school in Barnet.

The Federation is no longer a new concept, but it has proven to be a great innovation for us. Goldbeaters and Orion schools share one Governing body and act in a professional “brother and sister” way. All teachers are in teams of staff from both schools. The children visit each other and share planned events – it has created friendships across the community. We gained an OFSTED Outstanding Grade for the Federation too!
