EAL Coordinator job summary

  • Liaise with Y7 Transition Lead to ascertain which students will require EAL support.

  • Identify and assess students’ language development needs; planning, teaching and monitoring support where required.

  • Identify and keep records of learners receiving EAL support, monitoring their progress in English and working with colleagues to track their curriculum attainment.

  • Develop action plans for students who require EAL support.

  • Support staff to develop their understanding and use of EAL pedagogy.

  • Support teachers in evaluating students’ progress through a range of assessment activities, assessing students’ responses to learning tasks and where necessary, modifying methods to meet individual and/or group student needs.

  • To provide in class support to identified students in small groups or on a 1:1 basis.

  • Develop methods of promoting and reinforcing students’ esteem and independence within the classroom environment and where appropriate, working with parents/carers to support their role in their children’s learning.

  • Support the transition and transfer of EAL students within the provision.
