EAL Teacher (Maternity Cover) job summary

We have a vacancy for a one-year fixed term EAL Teacher, preferably with the ability to teach ‘mainstream’ English classes.

A vacancy has arisen in our EAL department as a result of maternity leave. We have a high proportion of students with English as an additional language and are seeking to appoint a dynamic and talented teacher of EAL as a fixed term replacement for one of our team of three EAL teachers.  You will be required to work across the key stages with small groups of students to enable them to acquire language or to improve their academic and more intermediate language skills.  In addition, the ability to teach a mainstream English class at KS3 or KS4 would be an asset.

You will be joining the EAL Team within the English Faculty, and as part of this professional and highly dedicated team you will be instrumental in inspiring and motivating our students. Our forward-thinking Faculty takes a collaborative approach to departmental development and EAL practice across the school, and you will play a key role in continuing to raise standards.  The English Faculty includes English and Media up to A Level, Whole School Literacy, and English as an Additional Language.

The school boasts a really positive and supportive relationship between managers and staff and between colleagues, and between staff and pupils. Paul Sutton, our Principal, encourages teachers to have an impact beyond their subject and he is always available and happy to discuss ideas with you as to how this can be achieved. We have an impressive range of extra-curricular activities and all our staff are involved in running at least one.

Take a look at the other information relating to this post for details of our employee benefits and why you should consider joining us. If you are an ECT you will get lots of support (‘what does GCA offer our ECT staff’ gives further information about this).

GCA has a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and has safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff. It is committed to the principle of equal opportunities; we welcome all applicants and value the diversity they bring.

Please download the application form via the school’s website and email your completed application to voxley@greigcityacademy.co.uk.  Interested candidates are invited to visit the school before making an application.

The closing date for receiving completed application forms is 3pm on 5th July 2021.

Please note that we reserve the right to close or extend the deadline for this position depending on application numbers, therefore we would urge candidates to submit an application at their earliest opportunity.

Commitment to safeguarding

Greig City Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we have safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check and additional pre-employment checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance.

In line with KCSIE updates, an online search will be conducted as part of our due diligence checks on shortlisted candidates.
