The St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Multi-Academy Trust (CMAT) was formed in September 2018, and it currently comprises of 21 Catholic schools (17 Primary schools and 4 Secondary schools). It is the largest Multi Academy Trust operating solely in Leicestershire and one of the largest in the East Midlands region, with around 8,600 pupils and over 1,200 members of staff.

Bishop Patrick formed the CMAT along with three other CMATs based in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire to create formal partnerships between all the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Nottingham. Here in Leicestershire, this built on a very close working relationship which has existed between our schools for over forty years.

The CMAT provides a wide range of services to support our schools. As a Catholic MAT, we provide Chaplaincy leadership through our Lead Lay Chaplain who works in close partnership with peers in the other diocesan CMATs and with the Nottingham Diocesan Catholic Youth Service. Our CMAT is home to both the Leicestershire & Rutland Teaching School Hub, and one of the Department for Education’s ‘Exemplary Leadership’ Programmes. Both of these important aspects of our CMAT mean that we provide the highest quality training and support for teachers and school leaders in hundreds of schools locally, regionally and nationally. The staff in our schools all have access to this excellent training and professional development.

Most importantly of all, the young people attending schools in the St Thomas Aquinas CMAT are part of a very large Catholic educational organisation which strives to ensure that their time at school will directly improve their life chances. Working in partnership with parents, local parishes and the Diocese, the education and care our children and young people receive is second to none.

Please explore our website and Twitter feed to find out more about our Trust. God bless.
