Early Years and Family Practitioner job summary

Service Objectives

St. Michael’s Children and Family Centre provides services that support the improvement of outcomes for children and young people and aged 0-19 (25 SEND) and their families with a particular focus from conception until the age of 2. Our OFSTED Outstanding Nurture Nursery (2022) provides care and education for children aged 2-4 years.

Key Purpose

The role is based in our Nurture Nursery and reports to the Early Years Lead. In collaboration with the nursery team and in line with the Development Plan, the post has responsibility for assisting with the planning and implementation of high-quality play and learning experiences which support the improvement of outcomes for children and families, whilst providing a caring, safe and welcoming environment.


ACCOUNTABILITIES

This will include:

Responsibility for others: The post has impact on the well-being of children, young people and families by contributing to:

Safeguarding and the promotion of welfare of all individuals

Supporting the assessment and monitoring of identified children using an agreed, evidence-based tool

Contributing to and implementing development plans which support the improvement of outcomes

Responsibility for staff: The post has limited responsibility for supervising other staff, though may be expected to demonstrate and support volunteers and students associated with the delivery of the Early Years and Family provision at the CFC.

Responsibility for finance: The post has no direct responsibility for financial resources other than occasional handling small amounts of cash.

Responsibility for physical resources: The post has limited responsibility for physical resources, other than the preparation and care of materials/equipment/resources and the secure, confidential and accurate keeping of records in line with GDPR.

Main Objectives

In line with the principles of the EYFS Framework:

contribute to planning, implementation, evaluation and record

assist in the delivery of sessions and learning activities to support children learning, adjusting them according to children’s interests and needs to ensure individual needs are met

Support children in accessing the EYFS through quality interaction using appropriate language and communication.

Support for children:

Under the direction of the Early Years Lead:

Support children’s development in the Prime Areas of the EYFS:

communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional

development.

Support the recording of information relevant to the assessment and review of children’s progress. for example, 2-year-old progress checks.

Encourage children to develop high self-esteem and independence.

Establish positive relationships with children, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.

Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children within the Centre, recognising and supporting their individual needs whilst encourage them to interact and work co-operatively with others.

Support the implementation of behaviour management strategies.

Assist with children’s toileting and personal intimate care.

Support to Children and Family Centre (CFC):

Although the post is mainly based in the Nurture Nursery, you will be required to support the CFC aims and at times, be required to work throughout the CFC services.

Monitor and evaluate individual/group sessions and provide feedback to the Early Years Lead.

Be actively involved in the maintenance of a safe and secure environment for children and adults.

Undertake appropriate administrative tasks relevant to the role including the use of ICT where appropriate.

To understand and implement St. Michael’s policies and procedures, reporting concerns to an appropriate person

Communicate with other agencies/professionals for the benefit of the children and families

Develop effective relationships with parents/carers, participating in feedback sessions/meetings

To work effectively as part of the CFC team.
