We are looking for someone who:

  • Some truly inspirational children of whom we are all very proud.

Dear Applicant,

I have included this to give you some information about the context of Holgate Primary & Nursery School which I hope will help you in your consideration of this post.

Holgate Primary & Nursery School opened in September 2014 with the amalgamation of the former Annie Holgate Junior and Annie Holgate Infant Schools. We initially ran within two buildings which were built in 1951 that had previously served the two separate schools.

We were fortunate to be on the priority list for a new school building which opened in January 2016. This created a calm and purposeful learning environment which is bright and welcoming. As well as light, airy classrooms, the new school has additional group rooms, two halls, a food technology room, discreet staff working spaces and plenty of storage facilities.

Our intrinsic belief in true collaboration led us to form a formal collaboration with Sutton Road Primary School in Mansfield, which we have been in since 2014. This provides many benefits and through it the growth of shared expertise has been immense, attracting and establishing formidable experts and outstanding practitioners at both of our schools. It has also enabled our children to experience some fantastic opportunities to enhance their learning and discovery of the wider world than would be challenging to achieve for a stand-alone Primary school. We know that this is vital for us as the people entrusted with the amazing job of expanding children’s minds and helping them aspire higher in forging their own futures.

The two schools are geographically 9 miles (20-minute drive) apart and serve very similar catchments. Not only does this provide a fantastic opportunity to quality assure all we do together, but it also supports workload and more efficient use of staff expertise than would be possible in one school, working in isolation.

We firmly believe no school can continue to improve in isolation and remain wholeheartedly an outward looking Primary School embracing work with other schools and establishments in order to continuously evaluate, reflect and drive further developments and improvements for the children we serve. We welcome and appreciate the next exciting step in our journey in becoming part of Transform Academy Trust that supports and further strengthens our own professional learning and growth.

Holgate Primary and Nursery School today is firmly established as a successful, happy and vibrant school of quality for the Hucknall area. The day-to-day leadership of the school is left in the extremely capable and excellent hands of Samantha Sheridan as the Head of School.

We have been tasked by our governors and children to attract high quality candidates to take up this vacancy which offers challenge, excitement and a unique opportunity. The successful person will become a valuable member of our forward thinking and supportive team in ensuring Holgate Primary continues to provide a positive and aspirational future for staff and children who are part of the schools.

We all strive together to accomplish innovative ways of working in partnership with other schools; it is challenging but exhilarating. Things are constantly moving at a fast rate forward in improving provision and this is an absolute priority for us to continue to improve further on.

With this firmly at the forefront of improving standards, we expect our staff to ensure they help develop and embed a school ethos of everyone being personally responsible for delivering excellence and bringing out the very best in our children.

The successful post holder can be secure in the knowledge that they will obtain a wealth of experience. We need someone who can give totally the same determination and commitment to the school that our staff, governors and children share.

In return we offer a supportive, friendly and collaborative staff to work alongside, a well-resourced and vibrant atmosphere to work in and some very special and wonderful young people to teach who I personally feel very privileged to work with and would not swap for the world!

If you would like to speak to me or Samantha Sheridan, or visit the school before the closing date, please do not hesitate to contact Holgate Primary School (0115 963 8649). Thank you for your interest.
