Early Years Practitioner job summary
Core Purpose:
To work with the class teacher to provide an outstanding education for pupils in line with the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage:
To work with the teacher to establish a structured free flow learning environment within the four principles of the Early Years Framework.
To lead, organise and deliver group and individual learning experiences in the areas of the curriculum identified by the Teacher.
To work with the teacher to support behaviour for learning within the efficiency of Positive Behaviour Support.
Support a climate of positive wellbeing within Early Years Foundation Stage for staff and young people.
To contribute to the assessment of pupils’ progress.
To support the work of the other colleagues in the team.
To provide cover for teachers in their own or other teams as appropriate.
Working with the teacher to write, implement and evaluate one-page profiles and pupil centred learning plans.

Key responsibilities:
Support for pupils:
Support pupils to engage in learning activities, adapt tasks for individuals and assist them to make progress.
Attend to the pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters.
Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning in a clean and tidy environment.
Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
Encourage pupils to interact with others and develop positive relationships.
Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.
Learn and use safe systems for moving and handling and physical interventions as appropriate.
Support for the teacher
Use specialist skills acquired from training and experience to prepare and lead learning activities for groups and individual pupils, in own class and when covering for teachers.
Work with the teacher to create a positive learning environment (with appropriate resources and displays) to support and celebrate pupils’ progress.
Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports to the teacher as required, on pupil achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
To prepare written notes for pupil’s Initial Reviews and Annual Progress Reports in areas agreed with the class teacher.
Support for the curriculum
Use strategies, as directed by the teacher, to help pupils to achieve learning goals in all areas of the curriculum.
Adapt strategies and approaches to meet pupils’ individual needs.
Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and assist pupils in their use.
Assist with planning for children in allocated classes within the Early Years Framework and the school’s specialist curriculum.
Support for the school
Be aware of and comply with policies and guidelines relating to safeguarding and child protection, e safety and the use of social media, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

Be aware of and support diversity and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the School as set out in its Code of Conduct.
Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
Attend relevant meetings as required.
Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtime.
Accompany teaching staff and pupils on educational visits and out of school activities. Accompany individual pupils on a one-to-one basis, locally, if required.
