What skills and experience we're looking for

Skills

  • Understanding of child development and learning, and how to support this process.
  • Ability to demonstrate a depth of knowledge and understanding of early childhood development, using supporting documents e.g. Birth to 5 or Development Matters to support learning and next steps.
  • Ability to follow teaching programmes, and also to take the initiative to adapt or adjust programmes when appropriate.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to self-evaluate strengths and learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.
  • Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.

Qualifications

  • NNEB/NVQ 3 childcare or equivalent qualification.
  • GCSE Maths and English grades A-C ( 4 or above) or equivalent

King Athelstan Primary School is a two form entry, community primary school close to the centre of Kingston upon Thames.

We provide education for children from 3 to 11 years in our school (currently 419 pupils) and also offer a wide range of services and activities for 0-5 year olds and their families through Kingston Town Children’s Centre that is also based on our site.

We offer a happy, dedicated and very supportive staff team and we provide excellent professional development opportunities. We work hard to put children’s welfare and happiness at the heart of everything we do.
