What skills and experience we're looking for

Essential

Essential Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 qualification that meet DfE's criteria for counting in the early years foundation stage framework staff: child ratios.
  • Excellent numeracy/literacy/ICT skills
  • Have successfully completed Paediatric First Aid training and hold a current certificate or are committed to doing so within 3 months of starting date before taking up post

Experience

  • Experience of working with early years children to support their

learning and welfare needs

  • Good level of subject knowledge to support the early years

curriculum

  • Demonstrate and use of a range of positive behaviour strategies
  • Ability to constantly improve own practice/knowledge through self

evaluation and learning from others

Knowledge and skills

  • Ability to use ICT effectively to support learning
  • Full working knowledge of relevant policies/codes/practices and

awareness of relevant legislation

  • Understanding of principles of child development and learning

processes

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Ability to adapt tasks to engage individual needs
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team
  • Calm, patient and caring approach
  • Knowledge and understanding of inclusion within the classroom

Special Requirements

  • Willingness to support medical and physical needs of pupil if required

Must show a commitment to the ethos of the school

  • Participation in development and learning opportunities
  • Additional training in relation to EYFS

Experience

  • Experience of working with a range of SEND pupils
  • Working with children with attachment and trauma
  • Experience of running small intervention programmes and keeping records
  • Experience of working with children in an educational setting

Knowledge & Skills

  • An awareness of early childhood development
  • General understanding of school policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of SEN and supporting strategies
  • Knowledge of Speech and Language development
  • Strategies to support speech, language and communication needs

Special Requirements

  • A commitment to continuing professional development in EYFS

Willingness to participate in the wider life of school
