TITLE Early Years Worker
RESPONSIBLE TO Headteacher
GRADE L3

HOURS 35 HOURS PER WEEK

Purpose of the Post:

To work as part of a team to deliver high-quality early years education and care for children aged 0-5 years. The role involves supporting children’s learning and development, fostering positive relationships with families, and ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for all children in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Supporting Teaching and Learning
    • Work under the direction of the Headteacher, SLT, or Class Teacher to support the learning and development of individual or groups of children.
    • Implement strategies to support children’s learning, including those with additional needs.
    • Provide feedback on children's progress and support their intellectual and social development.
    • Assist in preparing and maintaining appropriate learning materials, resources, and equipment.
    • Support each child's transition from home to nursery and build positive relationships with parents and carers.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding children and their families.
  2. Planning and Delivery of Learning Activities
    • Contribute to planning learning experiences for individuals and groups.
    • Assist in preparing and delivering activities that support children's development in line with developmental goals.
  3. Monitoring and Assessment
    • Observe, record, and assess children's progress.
    • Maintain detailed records of individual progress and contribute to discussions on children’s learning and development.
  4. Behaviour and Inclusion
    • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
    • Implement nursery behaviour policies and ensure a supportive atmosphere for all children.
    • Recognise and celebrate the diverse backgrounds and experiences of all children.
  5. Partnership with Families and Agencies
    • Develop supportive relationships with parents, carers, and the wider community.
    • Work collaboratively with external agencies such as health professionals and education specialists to meet children's individual needs.
  6. Health, Safety, and Welfare
    • Support children’s well-being, including feeding, personal care, and toileting routines.
    • Follow the nursery’s Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  7. Additional Responsibilities
    • Support children during activities such as outdoor play, trips, and special events.
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and engaging learning environment.
    • Assist in setting up and tidying away resources and classroom spaces.

The post holder may be required to undertake additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the Headteacher or Senior Leadership Team, which are commensurate with the role and grade but not explicitly covered in this document.

Context:

All support staff are part of a whole-school team and are expected to uphold the values and ethos of Grasmere Nursery School. Staff should be flexible and committed to supporting the needs of children, families, and colleagues.

Due to the nature of this role, an enhanced DBS check is required. Staff must adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
