At ARK Kings Academy we take safeguarding very seriously. All adults who regularly work on our site are required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to prevent unsuitable people from working with students. Ark is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in our academies. To meet this responsibility, we follow a rigorous selection process. This process is outlined here, but can be provided in more detail if requested. All successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Our mission as a school is to create a school in which every child thrives, academically and socially. Our school values are: 'Aspire. Expect. Achieve. Together’ – and they permeate everything we do in school with our pupils, our parents, our staff and the wider community. We recognise our role in addressing inequality by ensuring that all pupils, regardless of circumstance have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.

We are excited to be recruiting  for an Educational Psychologist to join the school team working under the leadership of Executive Principal, Caz Brasenell. We are looking for an exceptional candidate to offer a variety of mental health interventions to children and young people in our school, including counselling and support for our children, many of whom are vulnerable and have SEND. In addition, this role will also work flexibly and across several of the other Ark Schools in Birmingham. As such, they will co-report to our Regional Director, Gail Peyton.

In this role, you will lead on:

  • Consultations for school staff
  • Whole school staff workshops
  • Input for Parent/Carergroups

Please note: the role will be based in Ark Kings, though there may be some hybrid working available. You must be able to travel across Birmingham to other Ark Schools.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Completed professional training course as an educational psychologist recognised by the British Psychological Society
  • Experience working as an Educational Psychologist with children / young people and their families and working in partnership with schools, other agencies and voluntary services
  • An understanding of the skills needed to provide emotional and therapeutic support to young children in schools
  • Previous experience of using a range of assessment techniques with children and young people
  • A track record of delivering exceptional performance and quality working within high performing teams
  • An understanding of the Code of Practice and SEND legislation as it applies to the work of educational psychologists
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate and influence others through both verbal and written media and the ability to build effective partnerships
  • Currently registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a practitioner psychologist.

Ark Schools is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers and apprentices to share this commitment. To meet this responsibility, we follow a rigorous selection process to discourage and screen out unsuitable applicants.

Commitment to safeguarding

Ark is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people in its academies. Ark requires all employees to undertake an enhanced DBS check. You are required, before appointment, to disclose any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Non-disclosure may lead to termination of employment. However, disclosure of a criminal background will not necessarily debar you from employment - this will depend upon the nature of the offence(s) and when they occurred.

Ark Kings – transforming the lives of our students

In September 2017, Ark Kings became an all-through academy, admitting children from Reception to Year 11 and has improved both academically and in the provision, we provide. We have extended this offer in 2019 by opening a nursery for 3-year old’s.

This is a growing school serving its local community – a school that meets the needs of each of its students and has the highest expectations of every one of them to do well. We want to transform the life chances of every student who comes to this school. We focus on academic excellence and make sure that every child achieves their potential in subjects that will serve them well beyond school.
