Emotional Literacy Support Assistant job summary

As a developing Multi Academy Trust, now is an exciting time to join us as Westlea Primary School are in search of an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant to work in our SEND Provision.
This opportunity is challenging as much as it is rewarding and will allow you to support children with emotional and behavioural difficulties to enable them to effectively access the curriculum.
Your Role
As an ELSA the attached job description will detail your role in full. But at a glance, some of the key fields you will be responsible for include (but are not limited to):
- To work with individuals or groups of CYP who are experiencing difficulties with emotional literacy or other aspects of EP or home life.
- To establish supportive, caring and secure relationships with the CYP, and to be available to offer individual support and someone for a CYP to talk to.
- To plan and deliver individualised programmes of support for CYP to develop their emotional literacy
- To liaise with Teachers and other support staff about the needs and progress of CYP receiving support.
- To support the SENDCo: organise the support staff and cover; attend and supervise Hydrotherapy Swimming Sessions; manage CYP transitions at the start and end of the day, in and out of the EP
Your Experience
Our ELSA person specification attached will contain the full areas of skills and experience, but it is really important to us that you feel comfortable and confident in your role, so although you may not have everything desirable, there are some essential features our appointee will need to have and these include:
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent relevant to post
- Attended and completed ELSA training
- Previous ELSA experience
- Practical experience of supporting CYP with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a Primary setting
- Experience in the implementation of behaviour management strategies.
