Engage Subject Teacher job summary
Ideal candidate would be a Primary Phased Teacher with a passion for SEND
1.0 FTE Required September 2021 (or sooner if possible)
Burton Borough is a vibrant and inclusive mixed Community School of 1160 students, situated on the Shropshire/ Staffordshire border within the pleasant market town of Newport. Our location provides easy access to/ from Shrewsbury, Stafford, Telford and Wolverhampton. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful applicants will need to undertake a DBS enhanced clearance for the school.
We are seeking to appoint a teacher who has experience at KS2/Year 6 who can provide the highest quality of education, care and preparation for life for all students in the school, particularly those in the Engage SEND provision. All students, no matter what their backgrounds, needs or abilities have the right to access a full curriculum. The ideal candidate would need to have a specialism/interest in SEND to deliver the curriculum at an appropriate level for the students in Engage. They will work closely with the Head of Engage School and the Engage Team, including the Head of Wellbeing to ensure all needs are met. Students will access mainstream lessons where appropriate and this position will offer support and work closely with teachers to ensure that the transition is smooth and students are able to access the work.
The Engage Unit opened in September 2019 and has already recognized that due to the complex needs of our students there is capacity for further enrichment within the provision and more bespoke work needs to be offered. Increasingly there are more students with cognitive abilities that are well below their chronological age and the addition of a teacher with primary phase knowledge would enhance the work that is already being carried out.
We offer:
• A professional learning culture that is highly focused on developing your teaching craft
• A well-equipped, modern learning environment that includes a new £8 million teaching block
• A strong community ethos built through a small School System, with each School retaining a strong sense of identity
• A ‘stage not age’ attitude to career development opportunities
• A school that provides rich opportunities for extra-curricular activities including the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, team sports, dramatic performances and an internationally acclaimed School Band
