English Subject Leader job summary
Stormont House School is an unusual and widely-respected special school whose pupils achieve up to GCSE/BTEC levels at age 16. Most progress into our innovative Sixth Form where they ‘are very well prepared for the next stage of their education’ (Ofsted, 2018). We became one of the first outstanding schools in the country in 2005 and have improved at each of the 3 full inspections since then (most recently July 2018). This position plays a vital part in leading us towards our vision of ‘Achievement for All in a Unique World-Class School’. We are recruiting for a subject leader in English as the previous postholder is now our Deputy Head for Teaching & Learning. Students ‘make strong progress in English’ (Ofsted, 2018), achieving GCSE, Step Up and functional skills qualifications as part of their ‘excellent’ outcomes by Year 12. We have a terrific mixture of primary, secondary and FE-trained teachers working closely together to achieve that. Ofsted reported ‘the school’s training programme for staff is highly effective and has ensured that teaching is of consistently high quality across year groups and subjects’. Our culture is of continuous improvement and this is reflected in our investment in staff development We lead a teaching schools’ alliance and are a National Support School; what could you bring to our team?
