What skills and experience we're looking for
Qualified teacher status
Relevant first degree in English or associated subject.
Recent experience of teaching English in KS3 & KS4
Up to date working knowledge of the English Curriculum at KS3 and KS4, including national strategies and GCSE specifications.
Experience of supporting young people with medical, emotional, behavioural and social difficulties
Willingness to undertake training and continuous professional development.
Good working knowledge of child protection and safeguarding procedures in school.
Knowledge of strategies and techniques which are supportive of young people with different emotional, social, cultural, physical and learning needs.
Knowledge of the importance of Safeguarding and awareness of Safeguarding procedures.
Knowledge of issues relating to the education of children with SEND.
To be an outstanding teacher who models high quality teaching and learning and demonstrates high expectations of pupils in terms of behaviour and achievement.
Ability to inspire, challenge and motivate pupils and provide appropriate learning experiences across a wide range of age, ability and interest.
Ability to analyse pupils’ progress and performance data effectively to inform teaching and learning, self-evaluation, target setting and raise standards.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Willingness and ability to support a range of enrichment activities.
Ability to use ICT competently .
Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with parents/carers, schools, health and other professionals.
Work flexibly, able to re-arrange work in relation to changing priorities.
Ability to travel between sites.

An understanding of the strategies necessary to safeguard Health and Safety both in and out of school.

STARS, judged as outstanding in all areas by Ofsted ( Feb 2024) works with children and young people with complex medical needs who are unable, either temporarily or longer term, to access their mainstream school. The majority of pupils attend the Drapers Centre in Carshalton where they are able to access the curriculum in small groups in a nurturing and therapeutic setting. Other pupils may receive 1-1 individual tuition at various sites within the London Borough of Sutton including the school room at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
