English Teacher - Literacy Leader job summary

Would you like to be part of a school where the strengths and talents of students and staff are extremely valued (Ofsted February 2018)

Would you like to work in a school where the culture of being happy and safe means pupils can, and do, enjoy being at school (Ofsted February 2018)

Are you an outstanding teacher with the passion and motivation to inspire young people?

If so, then you will not want to miss out on this golden opportunity to join our high-performing school as our Literacy Leader. This is a new role that we are genuinely excited about introducing as it will have a significant positive impact on the learning of all students across the College: we are looking for a leader who will absolutely relish the opportunity of devising and implementing our whole school literacy approach.

Our vision is that literacy is the responsibility of all and the post holder will facilitate the acquisition of subject based literacy, rather than having a generic whole school literacy approach. Our literacy leader will support the College to make each teacher a literacy specialist in their own subject!

To facilitate this whole school role, the successful candidate will be on a reduced teaching commitment in order provide the flexibility to support colleagues in other subjects and provide time to undertake relevant research and develop training materials for staff.

Why come to Latimer? This is a fantastic school to work in: as a result of our success and popularity we are over-subscribed and have a very strong positive reputation. On interview we ask candidates for their impressions of the College and without fail they comment on how wonderful our students are, the supportive team ethos amongst staff and how friendly and welcoming the College is.

We are a tight-knit unit striving for the very best for our students and we are focussed on, and passionate about, learning and success.

We genuinely care about our staff, their well-being and their professional development: we are a happy team, committed to working collaboratively and sharing the very best practice. This was very much recognised in our most recent Ofsted Inspection, where we sustained our Good rating.

If you are an outstanding English teacher aspiring to undertake a leadership role it really is worth applying for this post. We need a candidate who is ambitious and will see this role as a great stepping stone to a higher leadership position in the near future. We have a strong track record of succession planning and many of our current leaders have progressed to promoted posts within the College.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.

The Latimer Arts College values the diversity of our workforce and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community.

And we are fulfilling our commitment to this! For prospective new staff, this is an exciting time to be joining the College and contributing to its future success. We have approximately 1130 students at the College aged 11-18 who are nurtured through their education in a purposeful and caring community ethos based on respect for all. As a Performing Arts College our commitment to the Arts is strong and there is always something stunning going on in our Masque Theatre: you might see a rehearsal, stumble across an impromptu performance in the foyer or be part of the audience at an evening concert. Expect the unexpected and the amazing - because that is what you will get! We value the contributions that our staff make to student outcomes and support them with being able to meet our high expectations through a co-ordinated performance management system for both teaching and non-teaching staff, with professional development at its heart. At The Latimer Arts College partnerships are essential and through partnerships, we are a community growing and flourishing together.
