What skills and experience we're looking for
The Royal School is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and innovative English teacher (Maternity Cover) to join an ambitious and successful English team from September 2024 in this heavily oversubscribed day and boarding free school. The aptitude and enthusiasm to teach a range of abilities from ages 11-18 is essential. Motivation and passion for the subject is crucial. We would welcome applications from experienced teachers or ECTs who would relish the opportunity of developing the love of literature in our pupils. There may be a responsibility allowance available for a suitable candidate to further develop learning and teaching in English and across the school.
Are you the person to stretch, challenge, support and inspire our students in and outside of the classroom?
The English team is at an
important stage in securing the highest standards of learning and teaching. This
post will give the successful candidate the opportunity to join a strong team
with dedicated and passionate teachers.
As a result of The Royal School’s excellent CPD programme and the supportive English team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to: develop professionally; improve and extend their knowledge; develop skills and experience; share outstanding and innovative practice; and contribute to the development of an exciting, challenging and supportive learning environment in and outside of the classroom.
At KS4, we have a three-year curriculum with all students presently following the AQA GCSE English Language and Literature. At KS5, our popular AQA English Literature A level is currently offered. These groups are taught in our new dedicated suite of classrooms, which have undergone transformational refurbishment as part of our independent free school investment programme.
Extra-curricular provision in English is an essential and vibrant part of the wider curriculum which is actively encouraged within the school. Students regularly experience live productions of set texts along with tailored workshops, lectures and lead on within the school. Drama and performance is part and parcel of life at The Royal and a contribution to this aspect of the team’s passion is essential.
The Royal School is at an exciting time of development. The free school is an all-through (Reception to Y13) ‘independent’ school without day fees whilst still providing excellent boarding at affordable fees. Alongside the growth in pupil numbers, there will be an expansion in the curriculum, enrichment activities and improved facilities, enabling us to extend and enhance still further the range of opportunities for all our young people.
The Royal School has achieved excellent academic results throughout its history and has an outstanding reputation for nurturing and developing confident, well-disciplined and successful individuals who progress successfully to the next stage of their life and career. We relish this next phase in its existence which enables us to review and build on our current success in preparing our young people for a rapidly evolving world and hope you will too.
Please, visit The Royal School website for further information and details of how to apply and we welcome personal visits to the school to see for yourself this vibrant, heavily oversubscribed school community.
