Exam Invigilator job summary

The role provides exam invigilation support for Aldercar High School. This is essential to the smooth running of the examination process and ensuring correct procedures are followed.

We use exam invigilators not only for the summer exams, but also for internal examinations throughout the year.

A good invigilator is someone who can demonstrate:

  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • A flexible approach to work
  • An ability to relate to young people yet maintain an air of authority
  • An attention to communicate to staff and students with accuracy
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • An ability to work to rules and regulations

Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up an exam room
  • Getting candidates into the room according to the regulations
  • Giving out exam papers and ensuring that each candidate has the correct exam paper
  • Reading exam notices
  • Recording start and finish times and preparing seating plans
  • Starting and finishing exams
  • Dealing with questions and requests for equipment
  • Contacting teachers when necessary
  • Supervising candidates who have exam clashes
  • Supervising individual candidates who may be working in a separate room
  • Checking and packing scripts at the end of the exam.

Invigilation times will be booking in advance, with a request for availability. A rota is created and shared with all invigilators, set out in two blocks (morning and afternoon). Timings are confirmed within the rota as these are dependent on exam finish times and taking into account additional time. Exams take place in school. Full training and annual updates are provided and includes exam regulations and procedures. This must take place prior to the exam period (this is paid training, so your time for this is not voluntary).

There are no guaranteed hours with this post as you are part of a pool of invigilators - we will contact you giving as much notice as possible, when we would like you to work.

Please see attached Job Description and Person Specification for further details on this post.
