Finance & Administration Assistant job summary

Are you highly organised, confident with finance systems, and passionate about helping a school run smoothly? We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Finance and Administration Assistant to join our busy secondary school team.

This is a key role at the heart of our school, supporting day-to-day finance and administrative operations and working closely with colleagues across the school and our central Multi-Academy Trust finance team. You will help ensure that purchasing, payments, records, and office processes are accurate, efficient, and compliant, enabling staff to focus on delivering the best possible education for our students.

You will be involved in a varied range of responsibilities, including processing orders and invoices, supporting budget monitoring, maintaining financial records, liaising with suppliers, assisting with administrative processes, and providing excellent support to staff, parents, and visitors. No two days will be quite the same, so we are looking for someone who can prioritise well, communicate clearly, and remain calm under pressure.

The successful candidate will have strong numeracy and IT skills, excellent attention to detail, and a positive, professional approach. Experience of working in a school, finance office, or administrative environment would be an advantage, but we are most interested in finding someone who is reliable, flexible, and keen to contribute to the wider life of the school.

In return, we can offer a welcoming and supportive working environment, access to Trust-wide expertise and development opportunities, and the chance to play an important part in the success of a thriving secondary school.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Is confident handling financial information accurately and confidentially
  • Communicates well with staff, students, parents, suppliers, and Trust colleagues
  • Can work independently while also being part of a wider team
  • Has strong IT skills and is willing to learn school and finance systems
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding, professionalism, and discretion

We can offer:

  • A varied and rewarding role in a supportive school community
  • Close working links with an experienced central MAT finance team
  • Professional development and training opportunities
  • A positive workplace where your contribution will be valued
  • The opportunity to make a real difference to the smooth running of the school

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed. To arrange a visit or for an informal conversation about the role, please contact Ann Hill on ann.hill@sjchs.uk.

Applications will be assessed as they are submitted and we reserve the right to invite candidates for interview prior to the closing date and to make an appointment before this date. Therefore, we encourage interested applicants to apply as soon as possible.
