Purpose:

As First Aid Officer at Orchard School Bristol, you will play a vital role in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of students and staff by providing immediate medical care, managing ongoing health needs, and supporting those with acute or chronic conditions. You will administer approved medication, maintain accurate medical records, and ensure compliance with school policies and regulatory guidelines. You will oversee the welfare of individuals taken ill or injured, liaise effectively with parents, staff, and emergency services, and accompany students to hospital when required. In addition, you will maintain first aid resources, support staff training, contribute to student welfare and safeguarding, and promote positive relationships across the school community, ensuring that the highest standards of care and professionalism are upheld at all times.

Duties (further details in the attached application pack):

  • Provide first aid and medical treatment to students and staff for injuries, illnesses, and emergencies.
  • Support students with ongoing medical needs in line with their Individual Health Care Plans.
  • Administer approved medication safely, ensuring parental consent and accurate record keeping.
  • Maintain medical records and accident reports in accordance with school policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Manage the welfare of students with specific medical conditions, including day-to-day health planning.
  • Liaise with staff, parents, and emergency services to ensure effective communication and care.
  • Accompany students to hospital when required, remaining with them until parents arrive.
  • Ensure first aid kits and medical supplies are fully stocked, safe, and in date.
  • Attend training courses to keep first aid qualifications up to date and support staff awareness of medical needs.
  • Promote student welfare and safeguarding by raising concerns about wellbeing, behaviour, or health trends with the pastoral team.

Fluency Duty
