Food Studies Teacher job summary

The Governors are looking to appoint a Food Studies Teacher/ Subject Leader, to teach this very important and successful subject and join our supportive staff team. The successful candidate will lead and manage the teaching of Food Studies across the school and work to ensure all pupils and students achieve exceptionally well in this subject. Food Studies is a really important and highly valued subject at Alderman Knight as it teaches many life skills and develops pupils’ independence and preparation for adulthood.

Please be advised that pupils abilities at Alderman Knight vary, but at KS4 and KS5 pupils achieve a wide range of accreditations Including Entry levels, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications and GCSEs. Currently in Food Studies at KS4 and KS5 we teach BTEC Home Cooking Skills and WJEC/Eduqas Level 1/2 Vocational Award in Hospitality and Catering. We have previously offered GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition.

The post holder will:
* Be confident and have the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to teach across KS3, KS4 and KS5.In the primary phase class teachers teach their pupils for Food Studies.
* Work with and advise the Senior Leadership Team and other teachers on the preparation, development and delivery of Food Studies within a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.
* Lead and manage Food Studies across the school from Primary to Post 16, including associated activities tailored to meet the wide-ranging needs of pupils across the school.
* Consistently deliver lessons that are of the highest quality and ensure all pupils and students are enabled to make excellent progress.
* Have experience of teaching pupils a with a range of SEND and be passionate about helping them achieve their potential.
* Be highly motivated, energetic and have the desire to become involved in all aspects of school life.

Alderman Knight is a maintained special school for children and young people with a range of needs, aged 7 to 19. During the last 10 years the school has undergone a complete new build for all phases. The final phase of our school building was opened in September 2021. In September 2022 we will have 220 pupils on roll and over 100 staff.
