What skills and experience we're looking for
Key Responsibilities as SENCO will include:
- Strategic leadership of SEND across KS1 and Foundation Stage 2
- Monitoring and evaluation of SEND provision
- The ability to support and coach teachers and teaching assistants in their work with SEN children
- Identify, develop and strategically lead intervention programmes across school for children who require targeted intervention
- Implementation of the Read Write Inc across the school and other assessment systems where appropriate
Key Competencies as SENCO and Class Teacher will include:
- Demonstrates a commitment to inclusive learning and high expectations for all pupils
- Has experience of working with children with Special Needs and can demonstrate impact
- Has a thorough knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
- Holds the National Award for SEN Co-ordination or commits to working towards this qualification
- Has the ability to lead staff in developing their knowledge and expertise in working with SEN children
- Is skilful in working with pupils with a range of different abilities and needs
- Has good communication skills and an ability to work within a team within school
- Has good management and organisational skills and experience of leading/managing other staff
- Can ensure the effective and efficient deployment of classroom support
- Can implement a range of strategies for engaging and extending all learners who have identified needs
- Has the ability to liaise effectively with a variety of external agencies
- Contribute to the whole school's improvement priorities
- Cooperate with the Headteacher and other teachers on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements.
