What skills and experience we're looking for
Are you passionate about the French language and culture? Are you a French native speaker? Do you have a desire to inspire young minds?
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, friendly, inspirational and dynamic individual to join the Languages Department on a fixed-term basis from 1st October 2024 until 31st May 2025, with a maximum of 12 hours per week.
As a French Modern Foreign Languages Assistant you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our students’ language learning experience. Your passion for the French language and culture will bring the language to life for our students of A Level French, whilst supporting our talented language teachers, helping students practise their French skills and preparing engaging teaching materials teaching.
You will have weekly timetabled session with students in groups of two for Lower Sixth (first year) and individual sessions for Upper Sixth (second year). You will cover the following A Level topics which students learn in class, but the main aim is to get them talking:
- Aspects of French-speaking society: current trends
La famille en voie de changement/La « cyber-société /Le rôle du bénévolat
- Aspects of French-speaking society: current issues
Les aspects positifs d’une société diverse/ les marginalisés /
Comment traite-t-on les criminels?
- Artistic culture in the French-speaking world
Une culture fière de son patrimoine/La musique francophone contemporaine/le Cinéma
- Aspects of political life in the French-speaking world
Les ados, le droit de vote et l’engagement politique
Manifestations, grèves/La politique et l’immigration
- Literary texts and Film study
Literature “Un sac de billes” by Joseph Joffo
Film “La Haine” by Mathieu Kassowitz
You will encourage students, clarify any misunderstandings of grammar, teach them new vocabulary and idiomatic expressions, as well as injecting some culture and civilisation.
An approachable and enthusiastic personality will be key to supporting our students, and previous experience of working in education and/or with young people is desirable.
