FS2 Teacher job summary

1. To have a commitment to the agreed whole school aims, values and vision and actively implement school policies, in particular those relating to safeguarding.

2. To plan, prepare and implement an appropriate programme of work for the children which:
• fulfils the National Curriculum / EYFS requirements.
• takes account of each child’s individual needs through differentiation of expectation/task.
• ensures that objectives, success criteria and targets meet the needs of all pupils.
• takes account of the children’s interests.
• motivates the children to become self-confident, independent learners.
• has a commitment to first hand experience/curriculum enrichment and the celebration of children’s contributions.
• makes full use of the range of resources available throughout school.
• is in line with whole school policies.
• incorporates advice from outside agencies into provision for individual pupils.
• makes effective use of teaching support staff.

3. To assess and evaluate the children’s work effectively by:
• completing summative assessments and using this information to analyse and track pupil progress, adjusting provision where necessary.
• using daily assessment for learning strategies which are evident through annotated planning, working walls, marking and feedback etc.
• ensuring that assessment records are kept up to date (J2SL and Assessment Manager) and that there is evidence available to back-up teacher judgments.
• using assessment information to set individual targets for pupils.
• using assessment information to inform discussion with SLT, Colleagues; Parents; Support Agencies; Link Schools, LA etc. around pupil progress towards end of year and end of key stage targets.

4. To take particular care in relation to the provision for pupils with additional needs;
• IEP targets are addressed through wave 1 teaching and learning.
• IEPs are reviewed at least termly. (or half termly where individual needs dictate)
• Gifted and talented pupils are appropriately challenged.
• Provision for pupils with disabilities is appropriate.
• Regular discussion with INCo and other stakeholders around provision and progress.
• EAL pupils are accurately baselined on entry to the school and needs appropriately met.
• All pupils new to the school are assessed in a range of different ways to ensure that the school provision meets their individual needs.
• All the children within the class have equal access to the experiences and opportunities provided.

5. To create and maintain a stimulating learning environment which supports different learning styles and sets the right level of standards and expectations by:
• organising the environment to facilitate independent learning
• clearly directing the organisation of displays of children’s work ensuring that they are changed regularly and reflect both current and past learning.
• instilling in the children a sense of pride and care in their environment.

6. To participate in meetings which relate to the school's management, curriculum, administration or organisation.
7. To maintain good order and discipline amongst pupils, in accordance with the school's behaviour policy;
8. To provide good pastoral care for the children by:
• listening
• being a good role model in all personal qualities.
• fostering the positive self-image of each child through praise and encouragement.
• respecting each child and ensuring that they know they are valued.
• fostering their understanding, social and communication skills

9. To alert the designated safeguarding lead teacher(s) to any cause for concern, in line with the school’s safeguarding policy.
10. To contribute to constructive team-building amongst teaching and non-teaching staff and to lead, organise and direct support staff within the classroom;
11. To participate in the performance management system for the appraisal of their own performance, or that of others, and show a commitment to their own professional development.
12. To support the drive to secure value for money in all aspects of the school’s work by:
• choosing and using resources wisely
• taking good care of resources and equipment and instilling these values in the children.
• keeping shared resource and storage areas tidy.
