What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking to appoint an outstanding teacher of Mathematics who is confident delivering the GCSE and A Level courses. Our students are academically able and well-motivated and achieve excellent results. The post would be equally suitable for an NQT or an experienced teacher and the opportunity to teach Further Maths and Core Maths could be available for a suitable candidate.
We are seeking a colleague who enjoys working in a team, can provide a stimulating atmosphere in the classroom and inspire our students. All teachers are expected to act as form tutors and to assist with the extra-curricular activities of the school and the teaching of associated subjects, e.g. Year 12 Enrichment, if required. Enthusiasm, patience and calmness under pressure are vital qualities. Please see the attached Person Specification for further details.
What the school offers its staff
This post provides an excellent opportunity to teach well-motivated students in this highly successful 11-18 girls’ Grammar School, which has an outstanding academic reputation.
Further details about the role
Mathematics is an extremely popular subject with a very high uptake at A Level and many students go on to take Mathematics-related subjects at university. Each year some students are offered places at Oxford, Cambridge and the Russell Group Universities to read Mathematics or related subjects.
The department at present consists of nine teachers, some of whom are part-time. All are specialist Mathematicians and, other than the Head of Department, two hold TLRs for development in Mathematics. The department is characterised by its liveliness, enthusiasm and experience and there is a strong sense of teamwork. Staff are very proud of the results the pupils achieve at all three Key Stages. This is not to say there is any complacency for results can always be improved, and the department is always looking for new ways in which enrichment and intervention can be enhanced.
The Mathematics Department has its own suite of rooms and a dedicated staffroom in a new block which opened in September 2010. The facility is complemented by 30 laptops, linked to the school’s wireless network.

Parkstone Grammar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Any successful applicant will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure check by the Disclosure & Barring Service. The school is also committed to a policy of equal opportunity.
