Governance Professional job summary

Location: Hybrid (with on-site meetings in line with schedule)

Salary: £18,902 – £19,951 (pro-rata, based on FTE £32,961 – £34,789)

Hours: 5 hours per day, term time only (39 weeks/year), including Monday evenings

Are you a proactive, highly organised professional with a passion for good governance and educational excellence? We are looking for a Governance Professional to support our Board of Trustees and Senior Leadership Team in delivering high standards of governance within our academy trust.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Resources, you will be the key governance advisor to the Board of Trustees. You’ll play a central role in ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance, supporting effective board operations, and promoting strong governance practices across the trust.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert advice on governance, policy, legal frameworks, and compliance
  • Supporting and clerking Board and Committee meetings (typically on Monday evenings)
  • Leading on board member recruitment, induction, and succession planning
  • Ensuring accurate records, policy management, and statutory reporting
  • Acting as the key liaison between the trust’s leadership and board members
  • This role is vital in ensuring our trust meets its responsibilities with integrity, transparency, and efficiency.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking an experienced, discreet, and reliable professional who:

  • Is confident advising senior leaders and trustees on legal and governance matters
  • Can work independently and handle sensitive information with the utmost confidentiality
  • Understands the educational and regulatory landscape (knowledge of the Academy Trust Handbook, charity and company law is an advantage)
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

This is a part-time, term-time position offering flexible and hybrid working arrangements, but requires availability for Monday evening meetings (at least 3 times per half-term).
