Governance Professional job summary
Torquay Girls’ Grammar School (TGGS) is a girls’ 11-18 selective Academy in Torquay, Devon. Achievement is consistently high and TGGS has maintained its position as one of the top 20 state girls' schools in the country for both progress and achievement.
Our vision is to equip students for a future in which they have the academic qualifications, character skills and self-esteem to make decisions that lead to long, happy and content lives. Our Single Academy Trust is founded on the core values which apply to all our community: equality; open-minded; kindness; collaboration; and well-being.
The school has a long history of success with committed and dedicated students, staff and Trustees at the heart of the community. The Trustees are an amazing team of volunteers who demonstrate their dedication and commitment to the school alongside their professional paid work. Following the resignation of the current post holder, we have a unique opportunity to recruit a new Governance Professional to support the Board.
You would be joining an outstanding school, with dedicated, professional and hardworking Trustees who hold our Headteacher and senior leaders to account over the standards of the school. We are an ambitious trust led by a chair who is also a National Leader of Governance, and we have a relentless desire to continue to raise standards for the students who attend Torquay Girls’ Grammar School.
The role
This is a part time role (1 day per week/5 hours) 39 weeks a year. You will primarily be working from home with flexibility around your specific hours. The Trustee meetings are hybrid with approximately 15 meetings per year either on the school site or via Teams.
The ideal candidate:
You should have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to form collaborative professional relationships, be proactive and have the ability to manage a wide and varied workload to tight deadlines.
The ability to deal politely and professionally with all members of the TGGS team and external professionals is essential to the role.
The post holder will support meetings of the Board and its sub-committees, manage the clerking services and undertake a range of other governance and company secretarial tasks.
Educated to degree level, ideally you should have experience of academy school governance and have an interest in qualifying, or have qualified, as a chartered secretary. You may be working as a Governance Professional for other SATs and/or MATs.
What we offer you
- The opportunity to make a profound difference to children’s lives.
- A team of dedicated professionals and a Chair who is a National Leader of Governance.
- A culture that takes work life balance extremely seriously for all its colleagues.
- The chance to work as part of a strategic team for an exceptionally high achieving, successful school.
- Opportunities to develop your career within our growing School Trust.
- A strong, proactive wellbeing network across the School Trust.
