Are you an aspiring teacher who is looking to gain some essential classroom experience before making that final decision to enter into a career in education?
We are looking for passionate, driven and caring people who will play a key role in supporting students that may have encountered barriers to learning and those whose education has been most affected by the disruption caused by the pandemic.
Academic Mentors will be expected to deliver engaging small group or one-to-one sessions to support gaps in learning. You will benefit from support and training from our excellent English faculty. As an Academic Mentor you will be employed on a fixed-term contract until July 2023 to deliver a tailored programme of support, unique for our school. Your main responsibility in this role will be delivering:
• Small group work
• One-to-one support
• Revision lessons (in groups or one-to-one).

Thurston Community College is a large popular mixed comprehensive school. It comprises of two distinct and specialist sites. Our Thurston Campus, for students from Year 7 to Year 11 is situated four miles east of Bury St Edmunds. Thurston Sixth; Beyton Campus is located in the nearby village of Beyton, offering a bespoke centre of excellence for students in Year 12 and Year 13. Both locations provide an exciting, dynamic learning environment, where students display a positive attitude to learning and make good progress.
