What skills and experience we're looking for

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and inspiring teacher to join our successful and welcoming school as Head of Applied Learning.

The successful candidate will

  • support Applied Learning course development in each faculty
  • keep up to date with national developments and those areas which impact on Applied Learning programmes of study
  • monitor student progress in Applied Learning courses and keep target achievement on course
  • develop and implement policies and practices for Applied Learning programs of study which reflect those of the school
  • ensure that there is a safe working and learning environment in which risk is properly assessed
  • liaise directly with a range of stakeholders, including external service providers, and federation staff
  • prepare reports, as required, to inform the senior and middle leadership teams of the progress of students on Applied Learning courses
  • be able to form positive and trusting relationships with students based on consistency, firm boundaries and making learning exciting and challenging
  • have a professional attitude that is open to innovative ways of working
  • be flexible and adaptable when faced with challenges


The successful candidate will be accountable for maintaining the school’s accreditation as a Vocational Centre and be the lead professional on all aspects of applied learning throughout the school, with a view to raising aspirations, attainment and achievement.
