Head of Art job summary

At Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, our Art department currently comprises a Head of Art and two part-time teachers, all of whom are subject specialists. The department has been highly successful over many years, with excellent public examination results at GCSE and A level. The subject is a very popular option at both levels and many students choose to study art-related courses in further and higher education.

The art accommodation consists of three specialist rooms, with access to a departmental base near the teaching rooms. The department is supported by an art technician, with further ICT and AV support available when necessary. The Art Department offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and liaises closely with other departments such as drama and music.

The expected timetable of the person appointed will include teaching art across all key stages. We are seeking to appoint a candidate with excellent subject knowledge who will relate well to students and deliver lessons in a manner which will encourage high standards and enthusiasm for the subject. The successful candidate must be willing to support the school’s commitment to developing AGGS as a centre of excellence for teaching and learning.

Please see the attached job description and person specification for a full list of responsibilities and accountabilities.

We are open, supportive and flexible with high-quality CPD opportunities through our Teaching School Hubs and Professional Development Institute.
