Head of Art & Design job summary

The St Marylebone CE School welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, races, cultures, faiths and genders. We would like to recruit a Head of Art and Design to teach all key stages. We require a versatile, capable and enthusiastic team player to join a successful department and show their commitment to the excellent range of enrichment opportunities offered to students. Plus have the ability to lead, develop and enhance the teaching practices in the department.


About the department

The department has a very strong academic record both at GCSE and A Level and also provides extra-curricular activities at all key stages. Enrichment opportunities are a great asset to the teaching in the department. The annual exhibition is a fantastic showcase of the students' work as is the whole school production which showcases the arts. The department helps with the set design and construction for the School musical. We support and encourage the concept of artist teachers and look for someone with a strong artistic practice to join the department, confidence in drawing and painting is essential.

At St Marylebone the arts, including visual arts, are really valued. With protected time for students to achieve their potential and the freedom to be creative with curriculum development. This is a sharing and thriving department with good numbers at GCSE and A’ level.

The department is developing links with how Art and Design links to careers and this is something we hope to develop even further in the coming years. All members of the department are expected to contribute to the extra-curricular offering and provide revision and extension opportunities for their classes. There is a strong ethos of collaborative teaching and learning and providing opportunities for the students outside of the classroom and curriculum is paramount.
