Head of Art job summary
We are looking to appoint a creative and passionate Head of Art. This role is suitable for a highly motivated and
ambitious NQT or an experienced teacher.

September 2021 Start
Our aim is to:
Equip students with the knowledge and skills to experiment, explore and make, giving them the skills and confidence to create their own works of art.
Teach students to become skillful drawers, painters, and creative practitioners.
Learn about great artists, art movements and to understand that art reflects and shapes our history, our culture and our national creativity.
Encourage students to think critically about the formal elements of art, the processes and context of art, giving them a more in depth understanding of art.
We are looking for a teacher to:
Be suitably qualified and have the skills required to perform the role to a high standard
Ensure the examination process for GCSE is fully adhered to
Have a good awareness of what constitutes an ‘Outstanding’ lesson
Be a creative practitioner and who is prepared to put forward ideas to help the department develop
Be able to work within a dynamic and challenging environment
Have excellent communication and team work skills
Be successful in delivering the curriculum (including lesson preparation, assessing and reporting on students’ work), using methodology and learning styles to maintain an effective learning environment within the ethos, rules and disciplinary systems of the Academy
Have the drive and enthusiasm to engage and inspire pupils.
Have the dedication to improve the life chances of young people throughout the school

The school has a Well-Being committee, consisting of members from the teaching staff, as well as those from the administrative and support staff. The committee meet regularly and serve as a voice for others to raise any concerns, but also to invent ways to further celebrate all staff. As a small school, one of the benefits is that everyone is valued as an individual. It is important to us that all staff feel that they are respected and appreciated.
The continued success of ‘STM’ in regards to progress is a result of the high-quality teaching, supported professional development, outstanding behaviour for learning and support of our students' families. We are an OFSTED-rated 'Outstanding' school and have been consistently in the top 1 or 2 percent for Progress 8 and this is a success we nurture by encouraging all students, of all abilities, to feel seen and supported.
