What is great about being an employee at Greig City Academy?
GCA staff work hard to ensure that students are challenged and stimulated and they are keen to work with new colleagues who are just as enthusiastic as they are about passing on a love of learning. They will inspire and challenge you but, in turn, they will welcome the ideas you bring for departmental and school improvement.

You will be encouraged to lead on projects in and out of the classroom and your efforts will always be recognised and appreciated. All our staff run at least one extra-curricular activity. We have been designated the Haringey STEM innovation hub in recognition of the wide range of projects we deliver in this area including robotics, rocketry, coding and electric car racing. Sports, drama, music, art, community action, public speaking, enterprise and animation also feature strongly and we are keen to develop new activities for our very enthusiastic students and are keen to know your ideas.
Outdoor education and Duke of Edinburgh Award programmes are strengths of the school and an exciting, well-established activity is sailing - on our very own fleet. Staff say these programmes give them a great opportunity to get to know students better as well as a chance to develop their own leadership skills.

We are committed to developing staff both professionally and personally and you will find managers responsive to your opinions as to how this can best be achieved. There are lots of opportunities to share good practice, for example our Teaching and Learning Café, where you can present your ideas on the topic of the week and listen to the ideas of your colleagues.

Your well-being is important to us. We aim to help you to achieve a positive work-life balance. We do this by tailoring our approach to the individual so we welcome your ideas as to how we can best support you.

Of course, we know that you enjoy working with young people and want to make a difference to their lives. We will give you the best possible chance to do so.

We could say a lot more but we think the best way for you to get a feel for what it would be like to work for GCA is to pay us a visit. Viv Oxley, PA, HR and Administration Manager, is happy to arrange for you to talk to students and staff so do email her on voxley@greigcityacademy.co.uk if this is of interest to you.

Head of Biology job summary

Additional Allowance AA2b £4,656 / Inner London Pay Scale

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and innovative Head of Biology to join our cohesive and inspiring Science team. The post is suitable for an outstanding teacher looking to progress into middle leadership or an established post holder looking to take on a new challenge. Our ideal candidate is someone who is able to enthuse both students and colleagues with a love for Biology. In Science, we are constantly reviewing and looking to improve our practice, ensuring that the department is constantly improving while remaining completely up to date with the most current and cutting-edge research. We are a highly motivated team striving for excellence and have high expectations of both pupils and our staff.

This is a great time to be joining the GCA Science Faculty. Science is a highly regarded subject within the school: a recent restructure has created significant positions in Science including Heads of Biology, Chemistry and Physics to join the Head of Faculty and Head of KS3. Science results have significantly improved and there is a real buzz of enthusiasm throughout the faculty. GCA is a successful STEM school and the Science Faculty drive forward innovative teaching practices and offer a range of well attended extra-curricular activities for students at lunchtime and after school, for example our KS3 science club and KS4 raising achievement sessions.

The Science Faculty at Greig City Academy has a wealth of knowledge and a passion for inspiring, engaging and developing our students’ minds. We encourage our students to think for themselves and place a high value on practical work, giving them the opportunity to make sense of the work around them. We collaborate and support each other by sharing good practice and taking a team approach with a focus on collective responsibility. We understand the importance of STEM and ensure this is reflected in both our curriculum and through the extra-curricular opportunities we offer our students.

The large Science Faculty has a suite of ten modern, large and well-equipped purpose-built laboratories housing a team of thirteen Science teachers and two technicians.

Greig City Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we have safer recruitment procedures in place for the selection of staff. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check and additional pre-employment checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance.

In line with KCSIE updates, an online search will be conducted as part of our due diligence checks on shortlisted candidates.
