Head of Business/ICT Department job summary

The Role

Following the retirement of our long-standing Head of Department, we seek an inspirational teacher to take our successful IT/Business department to its next stage of development. We believe that our Heads of Department have a pivotal role in inspiring and challenging pupils of every ability in every year to raise their academic standards, promoting their confidence and self-esteem, and securing year-on-year improving GCSE and post-16 results.

You will join a department that produces exceptional outcomes in a heavily oversubscribed academy. The department is staffed with experienced teachers with a shared vision and commitment to continuous school improvement.

Business Studies and Computing courses are offered for KS3, KS4 and KS5. There is an experienced Second in Charge of the department who leads a team of committed and established specialists. The school offers a broad range of Business and Computing courses and has a particularly strong and popular Sixth Form Business Studies programme. The number of Sixth Form students taking the subject has grown year on year. Our new Sixth Form Centre offers state-of-the-art facilities. It is used extensively by students studying Business Studies and Computer Science in Key Stage 5. We have an established Young Enterprise Club as well as the Business and Computing lunchtime club.

The role would suit best an experienced practitioner who can offer to teach IT, Computer Science and potentially Business and Esports.

In Return

Highcrest offers a comprehensive induction and an extensive personalised CPD plan for all staff. HODs are expected to attend a leadership development programme designed to prepare them emotionally and professionally for Senior Leadership. In addition, we are an outward-facing school with regard to liaising with neighbouring schools, having developed partnerships with PiXL and other networks to further enhance the professional experiences of our HODs.

“Staff feel very well supported by senior leaders. According to staff, they feel valued because senior leaders are approachable…”. Ofsted Report February 2020

A thriving and friendly academy in the heart of the community, with staff recognition schemes and a free gym and staff sports teams to counter the free breakfast, “Friday Treats” and on-site coffee shop! We also offer the possibility of shared staff living accommodation and on-site parking.

Are you a team player, passionate about education and social mobility? Do you want to be a pivotal part of improving opportunities for students and increasing their learning and social experiences? Do you want to work in an environment which prioritises staff and student health and well-being? Then please apply now!

Situated in the leafy Chilterns and within easy reach of Central London, Highcrest is culturally and academically diverse and is the only academy in Buckinghamshire that caters for students of ‘all abilities’. Some of our students need all your support, whilst others need to be challenged and stretched. Our inclusive and successful House system, a wide range of clubs, visits and trips helps to bring our whole school community together.

There are approximately 1,000 students on roll, including the Sixth Form. Recent additions to our site include a gym and restaurant/coffee shop for both staff and students, as well as a purpose-built Sixth Form Centre.
